Introduction - Lord of the Flies

I have been reading Lord of the Flies and till now it hasn’t been the most interesting book. I find it a bit difficult to understand and there are a lot of descriptions in the first two chapters. The book starts in medias res and we don’t get to know why they have landed on this island, or who they really are. Ralph is the first character we meet, and he becomes their leader when he gathers everyone on the platform for a meeting. It’s by blowing in the conch he gets everyone gathered. It’s only boys on the island, and the youngest are as young as 6 years old. The second character we meet is a boy called piggy, he’s a fat little boy with glasses that the other ones like to humble. On the meeting there is another boy who stands out, his name is Jack and he is the choirs’ leader. He wants to be leader for the boys, but they all voted for Ralph except from the choir who voted for Jack. Jack becomes the leader of the hunters, which are the boys from the choir.
Their number one priority is to get rescued. No one knows where they are because they had no make an emergency landing, so they lit a fire hoping that boats sailing past will see the smoke and come rescue them.

  1. I also found the book a little bit slow in the beginning, and it wasn't easy to follow the story or the characters. But as I got further in to the book the story got more interesting. So keep on reading, I'm sure you will find it more interesting as you read some more.
