A Marked Man

I just find it very strange that DHS released Marcus, when he gave them the information they wanted. When they came back to talk to him, they suddenly asked him how the bombs were set up, and who his accomplishers were. If they were so sure it was him, then why did they release him and tell him he was a marked man? As well as they said they had enough information from his phone and computer to put him away for lifetime. Were they just lying as a last desperate attempt to get something out of him?

    I think this is a common method used by institutions like DHS (in the book) and perhaps the police (at least from what I've seen on TV!). They are not sure if you are guilty or hiding something, so just to keep you on alert they pretend to have compromising information on you. Before they let him go, perhaps they wanted to frighten him one last time to see if he caved in and revealed something.
